When it comes to the development of a video project, especially a video project for a client, a treatment plan should be the first and foremost thing you focus on developing. The development process for many of the television and film productions we see today, usually include more than just creative writing and plot development.

One thing that we are absolutely sure of is that creating a treatment plan always proves to be beneficial for the producers and clients alike. The primary purpose of creating a treatment plan is to compile a document which explains all the concepts of a video, the underlying theme, and everything else needed to create the video. Some of the more important concepts include the production schedule, shot list, synopsis, and storyboard.

A treatment plan can be of a single page, or more than one sheet, depending on the production concept being implemented. While creating a treatment plan, the amazing part for the producers is that it centralizes the creative process for video production. You should be clear about the central message of your project, and you should also keep in mind script writing and dialogue, if any. Your preferences of the audience you want to attract and the outcome that you would like to see should also be considered.

2) You should be well aware of your budget. What you can do with it and how much you can make out of it. Monitoring your budget and using it well can be very beneficial for you in the end. You would also want to be sure of how long your video will run.

3) What is going to be the concept? Is this a monologue? You should know how to be able to sum up the entire theme and also be able to convey the objective of your video to the client or the audience you are trying to engage. The other aspect is that you should be able to explain the main crux of your project and portray the delivery method.

4) What is the approach? The approach that you use includes the laying out of details. Your method is commonly the narrative summary of the experience that the audience is going to take from you as their producers. It is the explanation of all the details that are incorporated into your project and will be shown to the audience. In this part, you are supposed to describe the central theme or the specifics that will produce a response from the audience.

5) Last, but not least, is that you should express the emotions and the feelings you would call for along the whole ride and what would be the reaction of your

Audience when your video will end. How are they able to relate to the character/characters involved in the project?

In conclusion, a treatment plan is one of the most important tools you will use to create your project. From getting the green-light for budget, to maintaining focus and giving direction during the production process, treatment plans are an integral part in the video production.

Jon: Thanks for joining us! How long has Global Filmz been producing videos?

GF: It’s our pleasure! We have been in Video Production industry for about 15 years now.

Jon: Awesome! So where are you located?

GF: We are based in South Florida, covering Video Production in Miami, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Naples, Orlando, 

Tampa, and on occasion have traveled to other parts of the United States and Internationally, depending on the project.

Jon: Interesting. Do you select the location used in your clients’ projects or is that predetermined?

GF: Great question. Typically, we will discuss the location during preproduction. Some clients will have everything mapped out the way they want it, while others are looking for more guidance and our expertise.

Jon: What are some things that help you or your clients determine where to shoot?

GF: The biggest factor in determining location is budget. Your story may require a setting that is only achieved through being onsite at an exotic location. Transporting a crew, actors, actresses, Grips, Production Assistants, Directors, Cameramen, and equipment can become extremely expensive. One thing we take great pride in is being able to accommodate the production while staying within the budget, and not sacrificing quality.

Jon: What are some things you do to accommodate shots needed in challenging locations?

GF: We have many techniques we use to achieve desired shots in the necessary locations and setting. For example, we’ve shot in a neighborhood in Miami and successfully displayed it as a city in South America. Fortunately, we have yet to meet a location challenge we could not overcome.

Jon: Any final tips you would like to share with our readers?

GF: Any project you want to do can be achieved in some form. Being involved in this industry for as long as we have, we encourage the art and expression that is a part of video production. It is always great to manage expectations as to what can be achieved with budget. But that’s what a company like ours is for. We want to see your project come into fruition while staying within the working budget of the production.
